SAP MM (Material Management) is a module that provides companies with material, inventory and warehouse management capabilities in the SAP ERP Central Component (ECC). The primary purpose of SAP MM is to ensure that materials are always kept in appropriate quantities and without any deficiencies or gaps in the organization’s supply chain. It also helps supply chain professionals and other SAP users complete their purchases in a timely and cost-effective manner and cope with daily changes in these processes.

One of the critical modules in SAP ECC, SAP MM is part of the logistics function of SAP ECC and plays a vital role in the manufacturer’s supply chain. It integrates with other ECC components such as Production Planning (PP), Sales and Distribution (SD), Facility Maintenance (PM), Quality Management (QM), Finance and Control (FICO) and Human Capital Management (HCM).

SAP ECC support is planned to stop in 2025, and will be replaced by SAP S / 4HANA at this point. It’s not clear how SAP’s functions from MM will switch to S / 4HANA, but the new platform has components to address the key issues behind MM.
